Star of the 80s, Herbert Léonard attracts the crowd during a concert in Cherbourg

It is in an electric atmosphere, mixing enthusiasm and nostalgia, that nearly 400 spectators came to applaud Herbert Léonard, 79-year-old singer, still as charismatic and talented, at La Glacerie (delegated commune of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, Manche), this Saturday November 2, 2024.

His tone of voice, unchanged over the years, delighted the audience, offering an intact pleasure of rediscovering songs that remind many of the memories of their youth. The brasseries in the shopping mall, the Caréolofane and the Colombus, were also crowded for the occasion.

The free concert attracted a intergenerational crowdfrom early fans to the youngest, who knew the lyrics by heart.

“I’ve been listening to it for decades, it’s all my youth…”

“It reminds us of our youth and it warms our hearts. I have already gone to see Herbert Léonard at the Guinguette, but I never tire of listening to him. I’ve been listening to it for decades, it’s all my youth…” confided Claudine Delaplanque, who came specially to savor every minute of the show.

Jérôme Chemi, singer of La Guinguette de L’Étang Bertrand, opened the show. Originally from the North but now “a Norman Ch’ti”, he enchanted the audience with a repertoire of French songs, including classics by Bachelet, Bécaud, Johnny Hallyday and Eddy Mitchell.

“We are delighted to welcome Herbert Léonard. This is a first test which turns out to be very positive given the crowd present. This is an operation that we will repeat,” declared Lionel Vuillaume, director of Auchan, satisfied with the success of the event.

Herbert Leonard performed seven of his emblematic titlesdont For Pleasure, Power and Glory et That you love me in the shopping arcade of the Cotentin Shopping Center.

The singer then took part in a signing session which lasted two hours, starting at 3:30 p.m. The numerous and enthusiastic fans had the opportunity to approach the 80s star.

“I have already been to Normandy several times, the last time in April, but I do not know your beautiful region well enough. I did a gala on Friday evening, this concert this Saturday afternoon in Auchan and, this Saturday evening, I am singing at the Guinguette de L’Étang Bertrand, before returning to Fontainebleau on Sunday,” explained Herbert Léonard.

Several generations still follow me, and the audience is still there despite my age. I have always loved this job, and the public gives me the energy and the strength to continue. I do galas in all French-speaking countries, but above all I remain faithful to France.

Herbert Léonard does not intend to leave the scene any time soon, and this success confirms that such an initiative must be renewed. For many, review this legendary singer of the 80s brought back precious memories of childhood and adolescence, forever engraved in hearts.
