Coming from American culture, the famous round donut with a hole is finding a place in the consumption habits of the French. In 2023, its sales have even tripled, with its turnover reaching 25 million euros.

“Ummm donuts!” Dear to Homer Simpson in the cult series “The Simpsons”, the famous round donuts are gradually making their mark in France. Chains are multiplying, boutiques are springing up everywhere and the American juggernaut Krispy Kreme is starting to establish itself… As a result, the market continues to grow. Its turnover has tripled in the space of one year, between 2022 and 2023, reaching today 25 million euros, according to the latest data from Food Service Vision, published this week.

And even, “the total market is already much larger”, notes François Blouin, president and founder of this catering consultancy and study firm. This figure of 25 million is that of the year 2023, and therefore barely takes into account the sales of the giant Krispy Kreme, established in Paris since December 2023. And, moreover, it only includes chains specializing in donuts (Krispy Kreme, Dreams Donuts, Home Donuts, Royal Donuts…), but neither the independent shops…
