Kate Middleton and Prince William made their first public outing since the Princess of Wales ended her chemotherapy

Kate Middleton appeared in public on Thursday with her husband, the Prince of Wales, for the first time since completing cancer treatment.

The Princess of Wales made a surprise appearance alongside Prince William on Thursday during a private meeting with the families of the three children killed in a knife attack in July in Southport (England), Kensington Palace announced.

Planned as a low-key event, the royal visit was aimed at spending time with loved ones of the late Bebe King (6), Elsie Dot Stancombe (7) and Alice Dasilva Aguiar (9), as well as dance instructor present during the attack, which caused a shock wave in the country. Ten other people, including eight children, were injured. Axel Rudakubana, 17, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder.

The couple wanted to show their “support, empathy and compassion” towards the local community, the palace said, also meeting the first responders who intervened during the attack, as well as mental health professionals, who notably supported first responders confronted with traumatic scenes and victims.

A gradual resumption of his functions

The couple also donated, through their charity, to a fundraiser aimed at providing physical and psychological support to police officers and paramedics involved in the attack and the riots that followed.

After completing chemotherapy, the Princess of Wales gradually returned to her duties, including meetings on her early childhood campaign last month. “I can’t tell you what a relief it is to have finished my chemotherapy treatment,” Kate Middleton said in a video. She particularly spoke of the “incredibly difficult” nine months that preceded it, describing this journey as “complex, frightening and unpredictable”.

Kate Middleton revealed her cancer diagnosis and her preventive chemotherapy treatment without specifying the nature of the cancer, in last March, in a video.
