This weekend ends the 3rd edition of the URBAN Clermont festival, an opportunity to discover and practice numerous artistic and sporting disciplines through workshops, conferences or exhibitions. This Saturday afternoon, the brand new Supreme Legacy Studio welcomed within its walls an international star, the Lyon breakdancer Lilou, who came to teach his art to young enthusiasts from all over Auvergne.

The dancer became known in particular in 2012 when he joined Madonna’s troupe of dancers during her show at the Super Bowl final in the United States. A sign of the growing popularity of the discipline, breakdancing has even been included in the events of the 2024 Olympic Games.

“Stretch your leg more… Now I’m going to let go of you and you’re going to try to hold on by yourself”relates the legend to a young boy who tries “headspin”, the famous rotation at full speed on the top of the head, typical of breakdancing. “Be more fluid, put more effort into it!”

These children will undoubtedly forever remember the advice given by this breakdancing monument, and even the simple fact of having shared a class with him. For one afternoon, these children live a dream. “It’s impressive to see it on video, and even more impressive to see it in real life“, testifies Yanis, a little out of breath from the effort. “We really have the impression of being very small compared to Lilou’s level”adds young Solène, who is also taking part in the course.

You can do whatever you want in breakdancing, you can even invent your own steps.

The breakdancer from Lyon did not come alone, since the workshop is co-hosted by two other exceptional “B-boys”: Daniko and Lucas Flex, two Congolese who came to teach for the first time in Europe. “It’s really nice to have this new experience and to see the energy of the children here in Europe, I really loved it”enthuses the latter. “They are among the best African dancers,” explains Lilou. It’s the first time they’ve given a course in France and it’s really cool to see them here in Clermont-Ferrand.”

These kids from Clermont, Puy-en-Velay or elsewhere are also witnesses: breakdancing is universal. “We can learn lots of things, whether we are a girl or a boy, and even if we are not the same age or the same height”rejoices Solène.
