Mélanie, from Colfontaine, has more than 200 Simpson figurines: “I created my little Springfield”

His passion began in childhood. “When I was little, my parents allowed me to watch the episode that was on TV every evening. It was a little before 8 p.m.,” recalls Mélanie. “I was immediately hooked. Even as an adult, I never stopped watching. It allows me to stay a little in childhood. It’s truly a family cartoon that can appeal to both children and adults. I love the quirky humor of the series. It reflects society, especially American society. She even sometimes predicts the future, like the election of Donald Trump. »
For more than 10 years
But Mélanie’s passion doesn’t stop there since she has an incredible collection of figurines from the cartoon. Today she has more than 200. It’s impossible to miss them: these little yellow characters have taken their place in a window installed right at the entrance to her house. “I first found a few figurines in flea markets in the region, a little over 10 years ago. Then I started looking online, especially on eBay. Over the years, I have expanded my collection. Today I have my little Springfield at home. »
Even Britney Spears
The forty-year-old has Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie in several versions. But it also has almost all the regular characters in the series. He’s only missing a few. Its display case even houses rarer pieces like celebrity figurines that only appeared a few times in the series. “I have Britney Spears, Stephen Hawking, the group Who…” She even has the famous Spider Pig!
But getting a new figurine represents a cost each time. “It can go up to €175 for a single piece. In addition, the figurines almost always come from the United States. So you have to pay customs fees. »
The Colfontainoise, who works at the Régie des Bâtiments in Mons, therefore tries to limit herself. However, she considers her collection as an investment. “It will increase in value over the years. I will never sell it again. I will leave it to my daughter Léa. She will have to take good care of it! » The 22-year-old young woman has been warned.
