On May 31, 1995, Mathieu Kassovitz brought the suburbs to the screen for the first time. A film carried by 3 actors (Vinz, Said and Hubert) still unknown to the battalion.

The story of these 3 young people confronted with economic, social and political difficulties, the condition of women and which in parallel with its codes, is an ode to love, solidarity and friendship. Praised by critics, including internationally, arousing the admiration of personalities such as Steven Spielberg who says he “loves the movie.”

In 2024, Kassovitz stands out with a lively and immersive creation. The director revisits the story of his cult film by adapting it for the stage and underlines the eminently current nature of the film.

Musicals are extremely political. If you look at West Side Story, Starmania, Hair, they are political firebrands. We are here to respect what we created thirty years ago, a reflection on violence, on the relationship between the citizen, the police and the State, a reflection also on hate and love..” Mathieu Kassovitz in The 7:50 guest with Sonia Devillers September 9, 2024.
