A fiction that looks a little too much like reality? “The cinematic event of the year” or even “a brilliant war epic in the near future”. American critics multiply superlatives to speak of the movie Civil War, which arrives in theaters this Friday, April 12 in the United States. In this feature film, the country is plunged into a civil war with a government tending towards dictatorship.
The images in the trailer are also explosive. Spectators follow a team of reporters, immersed in this war fueled by extremist militias. LCalifornia and Texas seceded. Seven months before the American presidential election, this film refers to the fractured American society.
In real life, Americans are currently tearing themselves apart over important societal issues: abortion, immigration and even the carrying of weapons. The debates are sometimes almost non-existent because positions can be so decided. Some Americans fear civil war very clearly. They are 40% to think that a civil war is likely in the next decade, according to a poll of The Economist, published two years ago. The film will be released next Wednesday in French cinemas.
