CINEMA – A sequence of Deadpool & Wolverine unveiled this Tuesday, August 27 on social networks has resurrected the hopes of superhero movie fans on a film project abandoned for years. This brief sequence confirms half-heartedly that Gambit played by Channing Tatum, has in fact survived.

The scene shared on X by Ryan Reynolds takes place just after Gambit fights alongside heroes like Elektra ( Garner), Blade (Wesley Snipes), and Laura/X-23 (Dafne Keen). He stands with his back to them, advancing across a battlefield before turning around to crack a smile. While brief, this clip hints at a possible future for Gambit in the Marvel Universe.

Comic book fans were first introduced to Gambit in the 2009 film X-men Origins : Wolverine. This time it was in the guise of Taylor Kitsch. As our colleagues at AlloCiné recall, Twentieth Century Fox had announced that the Cajun mutant would appear in X-Men : Apocalypse and would be entitled to his own film afterwards. Channing Tatum’s name had even been put forward. However, the character was absent from the film released in 2016 and the film project centered on the magician Remy LeBeau remained on the shelf. After an initial postponement to 2020, the spin-off on Gambit was finally abandoned in 2019.

Ryan Reynolds has therefore decided to finally offer him his place on the big screen in Deadpool & Wolverine released in July. A choice that allowed Channing Tatum to have fun by opting in particular for an “incomprehensible” Cajun accent as he confided to Variety. While Marvel hasn’t made anything official, the video released by Ryan Reynolds clearly suggests that Channing Tatum’s Gambit could have a future in the new Marvel stable. It’s the most concrete clue fans have to date, at least.
