Why keep your music listening to yourself? Instagram is working on a Spotify integration to let users live-stream their activity in Notes automatically.

There’s nothing happier than a music lover who can share the songs they’re currently enjoying, and the appeal of Spotify or Apple Music’s various sharing features is just one example of this. Of course, social media is no exception when it comes to allowing users to display their good taste in music, and Instagram’s latest discovery is a perfect fit for that.

It is Alessandro Paluzzi, via Threads, who gives us a preview of a new feature that allows users to display Spotify activity on their Instagram account. More precisely, this integration should be done via Notes, accessible from the private messages screen. Nothing surprising about this, since it was already possible to share songs manually via this tool.

This feature is still in development, and it’s unclear when it will roll out to all users. In the meantime, there are a few questions that remain, such as whether podcasts or audiobooks will also be displayed, whether Spotify’s private listening mode will be supported by Instagram, and especially whether other music streaming platforms will be on board (hope springs eternal).

Replace TikTok as soon as possible

Such a feature is not entirely exclusive, since we can already see it in action on Discord, for example. However, it is not insignificant, even as TikTok is struggling to continue operating in the United States, a bad situation that the Chinese company could also experience in Europe. It is therefore up to the competition to take up the torch of a platform that has become a premier showcase for the music industry.

While Reels make it easy for content creators to jump between social networks, it’s the various new music sharing features that are showing Instagram’s goals. Classic posts, bios, Stories, and Notes are all ways to showcase new (and not-so-new) music, and the American platform’s recent announcements are pushing it even further in that direction.

So, is Meta’s subsidiary ready to become the favorite meeting point for all music lovers and the music industry? With or without TikTok being banned from American soil, it’s a safe bet that users will not be indifferent to it, as the symbiosis between music and social networks can prove fruitful. At least, that was one of the recipes for MySpace’s success before the arrival of… Facebook.

Behind all this battle between TikTok and Instagram, the integration of Spotify to Notes is just one of the new features that should be added to the latter. Alessandro Paluzzi also highlighted the arrival of GIFs or even the creation of notes together with a friend. The feature is therefore in full development, and it seems that we are going to hear more about it in the coming weeks.
