The African Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) handed over, on Saturday January 4, to the Congolese Government a large batch of monkeypox response kits known as Mpox.

The Head of State, Félix Tshisekedi chaired this ceremony, organized at the National Institute of Biomedical Research (INRB), in Kinshasa.

This donation consists of screening, reagents and laboratory materials, in addition to the new vehicles and other means made available to the Government as part of the response against Mpox.

On this occasion, the Minister of Health, Hygiene and Social Welfare, Roger Kamba, thanked the President of the Republic for agreeing to chair this ceremony and for his personal involvement in the fight against this disease.

« This donation, which will allow our populations to access quality health care, wherever they are and whatever their living conditions, demonstrates that access to basic services is a priority for you. “, he indicated.

Roger Kamba is aware that this donation will allow the Government to more quickly diagnose and treat patients due to Mpox more quickly.

For his part, the Director General of Africa CDC, Jean Kaseya, recalled “that in August 2024, President Tshisekedi had disbursed 10 million USD as part of the fight against this epidemic”.

Dr Kaseya also assured that with this donation, seven other provinces will be covered in addition to Kinshasa and Goma.

Determined to help the Congolese government increase its response capabilities, the CEO of Africa CDC has decided to allocate an envelope of 600,000 USD to pay the teams deployed on the ground for the next six months to enable them to continue their work.

« We are doing our utmost to support and use our strong voice to call on partners to come and support the Congolese government. », concluded Dr. Kaseya.
