At the beginning of January, the Ministry of Industry decided to emphasize its commitment to energy transition with a visit to two Ile-de-France construction sites geothermal energy.
“First trip of the year under the sign of geothermal energy, in Val d'Oise”, announced the Minister of Industry and Energy Marc Ferracci on the social network Twitter. The young minister appointed in September 2024 by Michel Barnier is one of the few who were reappointed by François Bayrou.
On this Thursday, January 2, this close friend of the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron, economics associate, went to discover the geothermal project of the town of Margency, then the even more ambitious one of the Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport .
Green municipal initiative in Margency
Welcomed by Thierry Brun, mayor of the commune of Margencynorth of Enghien-les-Bains in Val-d'Oise, Luc Strehaiano, vice-president of the Val-d'Oise department, Laurent Monnet, vice-president of Sigeif75 in charge of renewable energies and deputy mayor of Saint-Denis, and Dominique Lepidi, sub-prefect of Sarcelles, the minister showed his interest in this municipal initiative verte.
Indeed, his visit revolved around the presentation of the geothermal project in the town of Margency led by the Intercommunal union for gas and electricity in Île-de-France (Sigeif). A project which will allow heating three public buildings and will significantly reduce the dependence of this Valdois commune on fossil fuels. “An example for communities to follow”, according to the minister.
Roissy airport in the midst of an energy transition
Marc Ferracci then went to Roissy to visit the geothermal construction site within the Thermo-Fridge-Electric Plant (CTFE) at the airport. Stéphane Daguin, delegated prefect for the security and safety of Parisian airport platforms, Pierre Abraham, deputy director of Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport for the ADP Group and Pierre Brossollet, CEO of the Arverne group which is building this project of pharaonic geothermal energy, explained to him the progress of the airport sector in terms ofrenewable energy.
Groupe ADP has been engaged for several years in the fight against global warming and has opted for a diversification of its energy contributions: geothermal energy at Paris-Orly in 2011 and biomass at Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle in 2012, to reach 15% renewable energy in 2020.
In Roissy, a deep geothermal power plant under construction will be operational in 2026 pour ensure 35% of heating needs of the site.It will allow a CO saving2 estimated at 50% approximately emissions from heat production at Europe's second largest airport. A “innovative project which illustrates a strategic approach to combining energy performance and sustainability” greeted by the Minister of Industry.
