The Dar Zhir association is launching an awareness campaign for targeted lung cancer screening, for the month of November 2024.

This disease is one of the main causes of cancer mortality in Morocco, with nearly 8,825 new cases recorded each year, according to official data. During the year 2022, this disease caused nearly 8,000 deaths. Smoking is responsible for 87% of cases, recalls the association, emphasizing the need for an anti-smoking policy adapted to the epidemiological context of the country.

In collaboration with various medical associations and partners, our initiative makes a point of encouraging screening by low-dose CT, an effective method for reducing mortality due to this cancer, underlines Dar Zhor. The latter calls on the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, as well as all the authorities concerned, to strengthen the fight against smoking. Dar Zhor, with different associations
medical, calls for rigorous application of Law 15/91 prohibiting smoking in public places and the implementation of specific prevention measures: prevention of the initiation of smoking, protection of non-smokers, support for stopping smoking.
