The new team of urologists from the intercommunal hospital center, dedicated and dynamic, has decided to get involved in this month of awareness of prostate and testicular cancers.
For the first time, two events are organized to mobilize the general public in the Var-Est region and better inform them.
The urologists in place since last January are offering, with all their services and the support of oncologists, a major conference-debate for all, Wednesday November 27 at 6 p.m., multipurpose room of the hospital.
Previously, they invite men over fifty years old – or gentlemen at risk: 45 years old if there is a family history or Afro-Caribbean origin – to a morning of free screenings, Saturday the 16th.
50,000 new cases recorded each year in France
Prostate cancer does not benefit from organized screening like colorectal cancer and is hardly publicized despite an incidence rate just as high as other sarcomas, the specialists at the Raphaëlo-Fréjusien hospital are taking advantage of this month of November dedicated to sharing their experience with the population.
“It should be remembered that prostate cancer is the leading male cancer with 50,000 new cases recorded each year in France,” explains Doctor Quentin Bandelier, head of department.
“One in seven men will be affected during their lifetime. This cancer is responsible for 8,100 deaths each year. We therefore want to inform and raise awareness about this pathology. Saturday 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., men aged 50 and over who have never been screened before will be able to come without an appointment. They will be taken care of by our service and will benefit from a free consultation by one of the urologists.
With doctors Anthony Kanbar and Davide Vanacore, Quentin Bandelier wants to emphasize the importance of prevention.
No symptoms
“The sooner the pathology is diagnosed, the better the treatment will be, he recalls. We have a therapeutic arsenal, surgery, radiotherapy, hormonal therapy, to avoid metastases where chemotherapy is necessary. You should not treat too early or too late, detection is really important. Because this cancer does not cause pain, it is asymptomatic”.
Come meet urology specialists
“Wednesday 27, at 6 p.m., come and ask the specialists in Fréjus because prevention is better than cure.” Admission is free and free to the hospital’s multipurpose room to meet ten experts.
Everyone will make a ten-minute presentation before a patient’s testimony, then the public will be able to ask questions and visit the stands.
Oncologists Maya Al Ghor and Jean-François Paitel, who benefit from their significant experience to improve the life expectancy and comfort of patients suffering from urological cancers, will be joined by doctors Bruno Valenza, Philippe Ronchin, Pascal Mandosse, Ciprian Frasinescu , Frédéric Fernandez and Cédric Vallier.
For early diagnosis, Davide Vanacore will explain digital rectal examination and PSA. Frédéric Fernandez will detail prostate imaging and Cédric Vallier the biopsy process.
Ciprian Frasinescu will provide information on treatments and active surveillance, Philippe Ronchin on radiotherapy, Pascal Mandosse on prostatectomy, Jean-François Paitel on the place of hormonal therapy, Anthony Kanbar on monitoring and Doctor Quentin Bandelier will devote himself to management sexual and urinary disorders.
Finally, Doctor Bruno Valenza will apply to metastatic prostate cancer: “Let’s break the taboos linked to male cancers!”
