On Wednesday, August 28, two individuals in a car opened fire on the door of the Sequedin prison, in the Lille metropolitan area, with a Kalashnikov-type rifle. The suspects are being actively sought.

The Sequedin prison, in the Lille metropolitan area, was targeted by two individuals on Wednesday, August 28. In the middle of the afternoon, two individuals parked in the facility’s parking lot. One of them then got out of the vehicle, wearing a hood and armed with a Kalashnikov-type rifle. He aimed at the door of the penitentiary and fired several times, reports France Bleu Nord.

The shooting caused extensive property damage but no one was injured. There were no officers stationed outside the prison. When the shots rang out, officers locked themselves inside the building and waited for the shooting to stop.

“We have been lacking security for 20 years”

According to information from our colleagues, no entry or extraction was planned that day. A few hours after this shooting, the vehicle of the two suspects was found burned. The two men are still on the run and are actively being sought at present. The public prosecutor of Lille went to the prison in the afternoon. A security perimeter has been established.

Contacted by France Bleu Nord, the UFAP-UNS union delegate deplored a lack of security within the Sequedin prison. “For years, we have been able to enter Sequedin as if it were a mill”he lashed out. “We’ve been open for 20 years, but for 20 years we’ve lacked security”he continued, adding: “They could have caused carnage with the staff.”
