After a great success in Charleville-Mézières (91-64), Basket Landes confirmed its good start to the season by dominating Bourges, one of the favorites for the title, in its overheated lair of François-Mitterrand this Saturday (68-55) . Despite the absence of their flagship recruit, the pivot Kariata Diaby, MVP of the LFB finals last year with Villeneuve-d’Ascq, Bourges gave the Landaises a hard time. Julie Barennes’ players only made the difference in the last quarter, after thirty fierce minutes.

The Landes technician was expecting a big fight, and there was no shortage of it. The first minutes are tough, the defenses take precedence over the attacks. This is evidenced by the score: only 6-6 after six minutes of play. After a first three points from Berruyère captain Artemis Spanou, the two teams began to adjust their sights and the Tango took a slight lead at the end of the first quarter (19 -20, 10e).

Samantha Fuehring imposed her power in the absence of Kariata Diaby.

The second quarter starts again on the same basis, with the same aggressiveness in defense. This intensity brings down the fouls, which has the gift of annoying Julie Barennes, obliged to recall her young international Leïla Lacan to the bench after her third sanction (13e). The two teams go blow for blow and it is the Landeses who take control at the break (36-34, 20e), on a shot from almost ten meters at the buzzer from their long-distance gunner Louise Bussière (12 points).

Upon returning from the locker room, despite several losses of balls, Basket Landes created a first gap in the wake of its captain Clarince Djaldi-Tabdi. The interior first authored a big counter on Spanou before taking a precious offensive rebound (44-38, 26e). But the Berruyères did not give up and picked up thanks to two long-distance shots from Amy Okonkowo and Laëtitia Guapo (47-47, 29e).

In the last quarter, the Landaises finally managed to take off, limiting an unskilful Bourges team in attack. First by Luisa Geiselsöder, with an off-balance three-point shot (54-47, 32e), before Destiny Slocum then Lacan accentuate the advantage (58-47, 34e). The players of the blue and white club continue their work of undermining in defense to maintain their advantage (68-55, 40e) and record a precious success to definitively launch its season.

Reaction

Myriam Djekoundade (winger of Basket Landes) : “We responded on the ground. We were once again carried away by Mitterrand’s electric atmosphere. I think it also made the difference in the length of the match. We showed rigor and discipline. We are lucky to have a fairly large group, where everyone has an impact and brings danger. This contribution from the bench is a real plus, especially in these seasons where we have a lot of matches. »
