Formula 1 | Marko explains why Verstappen clause jumped into his contract

In the 2024 season, at Red Bull Racing, there has been a lot of turbulence behind the scenes. And amid the Christian Horner scandal, it was revealed that Max Verstappen could leave the team if Dr Helmut Marko was fired.

Peace returned during the summer break, following good discussions between all parties. Marko, however, had to remove the clause that linked Max's destiny to his own.

Why did the Austrian do this? Did we force it?

According to Marko, “This is absolutely not the case. The goal is to lay the foundation for a successful business in the near future.”

“I've known the Verstappens for a while now. And the Verstappens are special, that's for sure.”

“And one thing is certain: they are loyal. We can count on them. For me, of course, these supporters of Max were very nice. He is one of the greatest athletes in the world, he earns a lot of money , but above all he remains faithful to his principles. This has not changed since he was fourteen.”

While he claims to be fit enough to continue attending races and helping the team, it would be irresponsible to plan a long-term future that depends on him.

“Of course I want to continue. What's the secret? Passion.”

“I've never had any major health problems, I drink a little less than before and I get up every day at five or six o'clock. I take books with me and I always eat something good for health. That way I can hold on.”
