Near Nice, this ski resort will be transformed: images of the project

She will change her face. The central square of the Auron ski resort, near Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), will be the subject major works as part of a requalificationannounced the president of the Metropolis, Christian Estrosi, on the set of BFM Nice Côte d’Azur.

“A dream pedestrian square”

The Auron station remains very busy in summer and winter. And to improve the environment for visitors and residents, the Nice Côte d'Azur Metropolis will undertake work on in the central square. This was announced this Thursday, January 2, 2025, by the president of the community, Christian Estrosi, on BFM Nice Côte d’Azur.

The objective is then to create “a qualitative, unifying and attractive urban space in all seasons”, explain the services of the Metropolis, requested by news Nice. Among our colleagues, the elected official thus promises “a dream pedestrian square like one finds in the most beautiful resorts of Savoie » where no more cars will be able to circulate.

This transformation should then “appease the heart of the resort by taking into account the existing heritage to enhance it while being a continuation of the recently created public spaces to provide a harmonious space.”

Inauguration possible in June 2027

The ice rink will also be renovated. The cost of the project is estimated at 3.2 million euros. A consultation should be carried out at the start of the year, “for an award of the market from June which would make it possible to envisage an inauguration in June 2027”, specifies a spokesperson for the Metropolis at news Nice.

A new cable car is coming

And that's not all: the Las Donnas and Télériou cable cars and their stations will be modernized. The cabins will be replaced in order to “improve their attractiveness” and reduce their maintenance costs. Work at the stations is expected to begin in May 2025 until October, with vehicle replacement planned for November.

Also, a new cable car will appear on the double section Riou Sauma Longue. This monumental project costing 25.7 million euros will make it possible to serve two sectors by cable car and “to improve the accessibility of the entire area in order to relieve congestion in the center of the resort”.

Departing from Riou, the future machine will be able to support 2,400 people per hour. A public consultation followed by a public inquiry will be organized during 2025, we are told. The estimated period for the start of work is set for spring 2027.
