Civil servants in the city of Nice showing symptoms will be forced to wear a mask during this seasonal flu epidemic, which is putting pressure on some hospitals.
A call for vigilance and respect for barrier gestures was launched by the city of Nice (Alpes-Maritimes) on Tuesday, in connection with the flu epidemic which is intensifying throughout France. The municipality encourages the wearing of a mask and even makes it compulsory in certain cases, it announced in a press release. Municipal agents presenting flu-like symptoms as well as staff and visitors to the three Ephads and the three independent residences of the municipal social action center will have to wear it until further notice. Masks and hydroalcoholic gel will be distributed.
If the Nice hospital has not at this stage activated the white plan, like around twenty establishments in the country and that of Toulon (Var), the situation remains complicated, at level 3 of tension. The Nice hospital center evokes “a significant influx of patients”with 35% of them testing positive for the flu.
“No beds available”
“Currently, no more beds are available in public and private establishments in our territory”assured the community, which invites potential patients to call 15 and not overload the emergencies. The activation of a white plan allows, among other things, to postpone certain operations which are not considered a priority in the face of an emergency situation. These health professionals are already organizing themselves to maximize the number of places available.
The city has also encouraged those over 75 to get vaccinated against the flu by going to a center on rue Hancy, or to request a vaccination at home (04.92.17.44.90). “On respecting these few gestures depends, for the days to come, the health and well-being of all. If the epidemic were to worsen, I would convene an exceptional local health council”insisted Mayor Christian Estrosi.
Health agencies have noted an increase in cases of acute respiratory infections during school holidays and end-of-year holidays, times when seasonal viruses can be transmitted. On the other hand, few cases of Covid-19 have been recorded at this stage.
