Marith Vanhove finished 22nd and penultimate in the omnium at the Track World Championships on Friday evening in Ballerup, Denmark. Gold was won by New Zealander Ally Wollaston, who won her second world title in two days.

Lotte Kopecky has decided, after a particularly long and successful season, not to participate in the omnium of these Worlds. Belgium then selected Vanhove, aged 21. However, the young Flandrian hopeful finished at the bottom of the rankings in all four events and ranked 22nd out of 24 participants in the final ranking.

In the fight for gold, Denmark’s Amalie Dideriksen and Norway’s Anita Yvonne Stenberg were in the lead heading into the final round of the points race, but it was an in-form Wollaston who took control. The New Zealander totals 131 points in the final ranking, twelve more than the British Jessica Roberts (silver) and 21 more than Stenberg (bronze). Wollaston had already won the world title in the elimination race on Thursday, just ahead of Kopecky.

Vanhove was the last Belgian representative to enter the track on the third evening of these world championships. On Saturday, she will be in action again during the 500m time trial qualifications. Lindsay De Vylder will take part in the men’s omnium on Saturday, while Katrijn De Clercq and Hélène Hesters will be present in the American.
