A new identity for the iPhone SE?
Several variations would be possible: some mention iPhone 16E
while others imagine variationsas iPhone 16e
, iPhone 16 with an E in a square
(like the iPhone 5C), or even iPhone 16 SE
. Obviously everything is just rumors and it is also possible that Apple will keep the SE brand.
What to expect from the 4th generation iPhone SE?
Rumors have been flying for several months about Apple's traditionally least expensive iPhone. In terms of design, this should be more modern, with a look close to the iPhone 14, or even the iPhone 16. Bye bye rounded edges, hello straight chassis and flat edges. It would nevertheless be lighter than the latter, by around 7 grams, for a total weight of 165 grams. This drop on the scale would be due to the design with a single camera.
It would have a 6.1-inch OLED screen – a marked improvement over previous models. According to the supposed CAD files, the iPhone SE 4 would be the largest SE ever. And for many users, this point constitutes a big disappointment. Indeed, Apple had already killed the iPhone mini and is preparing to do the same with the smaller form factor – which is a great shame. In fact, many customers loved this format, so practical and easy to fit in their pocket!
This generation should be the first to abandon the Home button and Touch ID, for move to Face ID and USB-Cnow mandatory in the EU for all new smartphones sold (unless stocks produced before 2025 run out). It would be equipped with a 48 megapixel camerabut still retaining a single rear camera and showing boosted performance. It would be equipped with a new A series chipassociated with 8 Go to RAM (optimized for Apple Intelligence).
Finally, a little bonus at the end, it would integrate the first 5G modem designed in-house by Apple. The Action button, introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro, remains unknown for this model.
A strategic repositioning?
Launched in March 2022, the current iPhone SE 3 is based on the aging iPhone 8 designwith a Touch ID button and a Lightning port. It is priced from 429 dollars in the United States (and 529 euros in France). With this next edition, Apple seems to want to give its SE range a facelift while repositioning the product at a slightly higher price. The latter would be justified by significant improvements (AI, RAM, camera, size).
While waiting for official confirmation, this new iPhone could become a more accessible alternative to flagship and expensive modelswhile modernizing the user experience to meet the expectations of today's market.
