Be careful if you live in the area around Chalon-sur-Saône: hospital emergencies are now regulated. “The emergency department is currently facing a very significant peak in activity”wrote the William Morey hospital center in a press release on January 2.
Obligation to prioritize vital emergencies
“Faced with this unprecedented increase in requests, Center 15 and the emergency department find themselves obliged to prioritize the management of vital emergencies and situations of proven seriousness. Consequently, the call to Center 15 above all possible trip to the emergency room is strictly obligatory”continues the hospital.
From now on, only vital emergencies will be treated in the emergency room. Patients who present for a non-life-threatening emergency “will be systematically reoriented” towards private doctors, the on-call medical center or a health center.
The reason for this peak in attendance? “Covid and flu”specifies the Chalon-sur-Saône hospital center which attributes this increase to two factors: the epidemic itself, and the lack of private doctors currently on leave.
“Currently, 48 patients are admitted to the emergency room without a hospital bed”adds the hospital. The regulation is scheduled until January 5, a renewable date depending on the situation.
Elsewhere in Burgundy too, the health system is under pressure, in particular because of particularly aggressive respiratory viruses this winter.
At Dijon University Hospital, the epidemic of flu and bronchiolitis is causing many illnesses. 250 patients are currently hospitalized for respiratory viruses. Wearing a mask has been imposed since December 31.
