Yoann Guay enters the Academy

Yoann Guay, from Trois-Pistoles, entered the Academy thanks to the public vote who preferred him to two candidates from New Brunswick Randy McGraw and Philippe LeBouthillier.

At only 24 years old, the native of Saint-Mathieu-de-Rioux already has a long track record as a songwriter and performer. He notably won the National Final of Cégep en spectacle in 2020, in addition to participating in The Voice in in 2017.

An album to his credit

In the fall of 2020, he released his very first album entitled Premier Regard, a rather introspective album. “Only one of the nine songs is not about me. It’s an album that touches on several musical styles. I’ve been singing since I was 15, but I performed other people’s songs. Artist friends told me that it was even more rewarding to sing your own songs,” the artist mentioned at the time.

Discovered by his mother

Yoann says that it was his mother who gave him a taste for singing. “I must have been 15 and I was singing Johnny Cash in my room. I have a fairly deep voice, a bit like him. She put on a show for the family. I was very nervous to sing in front of people, but that was the trigger. I loved singing in front of people so much that I said to myself that’s what I wanted to do in life. “.

Secondary school teacher

Yoann now lives in Trois-Pistoles. He is a secondary school mathematics and English as a second language teacher at Saint-Jean-de-Dieu school. For him, writing his own songs is the best way to highlight his emotions. Piano and guitars are not far from him on a daily basis.
