SENEGAL-SANTE-COLLECTIVITE / Kédougou: 154 cases of tuberculosis recorded in 2024 (responsible) – Senegalese press agency

Kédougou January 20 (APS) – One hundred and fifty-four cases of tuberculosis, including two chronic, were recorded in the health district of Kédougou (east) during the year 2024, APS learned from the person responsible for treating the disease in the said health district, Ramatoulaye Faye.

”In 2024, we have recorded 154 cases of tuberculosis and, each year, cases double in the Kédougou health district,” she said, adding that men are the most affected by this disease.

Speaking in an interview with APS, Ramatoulaye Faye specifies that in the 154 cases identified, the 124 people are affected by bacteriologically confirmed tuberculosis.

”Most of the illnesses we get are from men who smoke and drink alcohol. Smoking is a factor that promotes the disease,” she said.

The state nurse further said that the recovery rate in the district stands at 75.86 per cent of cases. But, she reported, 20.68% of the number of patients under treatment are now lost to follow-up.

She indicates that the health district has developed an action plan for the search for these cases through the organization of an awareness campaign.

”We will very soon organize a vast awareness campaign on prevention, screening and treatment monitoring and hold talks in town and in different villages with grassroots community organizations and +Bajenu gox+ to try to find patients lost to follow-up,” announced Ramatoulaye Faye.
