A few weeks ago, Variety heralded an unpredictable Oscar season. But in the end, it is the French who win: in fact “Emilia Pérez” is the big winner of the 2025 Golden Globes, which were held this Sunday evening in Los Angeles. In what is considered to be the antechamber of the Oscars, Jacques Audiard's film, between thriller and musical, is awarded four statuettes: Best musical or comedy film, Best supporting actress for Zoe Saldaña, Best language film foreign and especially Best Original Song. Signed by the singer Camille and his fellow composer Clément Ducol, “El Mal” therefore won the Golden Globe against big names: Miley Cyrus (le drame “The Last Showgirl” avec Pamela Anderson), Robbie Williams (for her biopic “Better Man”) or Maren Morris (the animated film “The Wild Robot”). Note that another song from Camille and Clément Ducol was competing in the same category: “Mi Camino”.

A French coronation!

« It's a true American experience » Camille reacted, to the laughter of the audience, when receiving her prize: “ Songs are like butterflies, and we need butterflies, even if it's to denounce corruption in the world. Thank you to all the songwriters around the world, thank you to the Golden Globes teams “. This is the third time that a French artist has been awarded the Golden Globes for Best Song after Michel Legrand (“The Windmills of Your Mind” in 1968 for “The Thomas Crown Affair”) and Claude Rich (“I Feel Love” in 1974 for “Benji”). “Emilia Pérez” is therefore well on its way to being the first French film, since “The Artist” in 2012, to raid the next Oscars. The other big winner of the evening was “The Brutalist”. The dramatic 3h35 fresco (with intermission!), telling the story of a Jewish architect who survived the concentration camps, won three prizes! Namely Best Drama Film, Best Director for Brady Corbet and Best Drama Actor for Adrian Brody.

Other awards include “Conclave” (Best Screenplay Award), Demi Moore (winner for her role in “The Substance”), “Flow” (Best Animated Film) and Fernanda Torres, the first Brazilian actress to win a Golden Award. Globes for his role in “I'm Still Here.” After “The Social Network” and “Soul”, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, from the group Nine Inch Nails, collected their third Golden Globe for Best Original Score for the thunderous “Challengers”. Despite its four nominations, “Wicked” only received the award for Best Box Office Performance, while “A Complete Unknown”, the biopic on Bob Dylan starring Timothée Chalamet, was the big loser, having not shone in any of its three categories. On the series side, it's the historical drama “Shogun” which wins with four trophies, while Jeremy Allen White, who will soon play Bruce Springsteen in the cinema, is crowned for the third year in a row for “The Bear”. Colin Farrell and Jodie Foster also won awards for “The Penguin” and “True Detective: Night Country.”
