He is one of the emblematic figures of the territory. François Morel, radio and television star, is one of the historical readers of L’Orne Combattante. For the 80th anniversary of the newspaper, the native of Saint-Georges-des-Groseillers agreed to respond to nos questions.
What does the L’Orne Combattante newspaper mean to you?
It’s the Thursday purchase, although I must admit that I no longer buy it because I can’t find it near my house. But every time I come back to Normandy, I watch it to find out what’s going on in the area. It is a newspaper to which I am attached.
Can we talk about a family tradition?
Yes, we had L’Orne Combattante every week at home, we didn’t even ask ourselves the question: we inevitably read it. Mes parents were not subscribers but we went to buy the newspaper at the grocery store. And then before doing shows at the Albatross, we received artistes and each time I had to write articles. Often it was me who sent them, so I keep in memory lots of publications in the 70s.
Since these first steps on stage, what link do you maintain with Orne today?
I am less there, because I no longer have my parents, but part of my family remains, notably cousins in Saint-Georges-des-Groseillers. I also have friends in Saint-Paul, so I like to come back there.
Do you read L’Orne Combattante remotely, on the Internet?
Oh no, could I? I’ll go see that then!
We sometimes hear you on the radio referring to articles from L’Orne Combattante…
Of course, I happened to quote your newspaper. And on TV also, for example when I am invited to Michel Drucker’s show, he systematically talks to me about L’Orne Combattante. Like me, it inspires him.
A final word?
A very happy birthday has L’Orne Combattante !
