The last few months have been particularly trying for Enrico Macias. The 85-year-old singer was forced to cancel many dates scheduled for the end of June and then in July and August. After weeks of silence, the singer of Girls of my country finally reassured his fans about his absence through a short video posted on Instagram.

Friday June 28, the singer who was named Singer of Peace by the UN in 1980 initially confided: “I know you have been extremely worried about me, but rest assured. […] I’m a thousand times better.” The artist, born Gaston Ghrenassia, then returned to the reason which pushed him to withdraw from his artistic activities: “I had a fracture of the vertebrae. Let’s say it was a stress fracture, from the passage of time,” he related.

Enrico Macias: “It was impossible for me to sing”

And to continue having experienced a very difficult period: “I’m joking but I suffered martyrdom, it’s very painful. But the pain is going away thanks to you. I was forced to cancel all my shows because it was impossible for me to sing, but it’s only postponed.”

Enrico Macias then thanked the public for the support and promised that he wanted to come back “in better shape” for the start of the school year: “I will have the whole summer to rest and in September, I will be in even better shape than now. I wish you a very nice summer”
