Certainly, season 4 of The Boys provokes a lot of epiphanies among some fans. There are some who are only now discovering that the satire is aimed directly at masculinists and white supremacists, fascist leaders and capitalism. Others are surprised that Frenchie could have a love affair with a man.

His interpreter, Tomer Capone, says in an interview for Variety having been inspired from the beginning by personalities such as Serge Gainsbourg, Iggy Pop, Mick Jagger and David Bowie. Apart from the latter, whose bisexuality is still debated today, it is more about heterosexual male figures who have been able to play with gender expression.

“This is just another gorgeous color to explore in Frenchie’s palette. I love it.”

For the magazine TheWrap, the actor seems a little annoyed by the astonishment of certain fans regarding Frenchie’s relationship with Colin. For him, the clues to his character’s bisexuality were there.

“What the hell are you talking about? The guy’s lines are literally, ‘My mouth is always open,’ and when Love Sausage strangles Mother’s Milk, he says, ‘Don’t be so closed-minded.’”

The Boys is not known for being subtle, by showrunner Eric Kripke’s own admission, but even so, whether it’s surprising or not, Frenchie’s bisexuality shouldn’t cause any uproar. And as for what his character would say to those who are offended by it, Tomer Capone has his own idea:

“Frenchie’s response would be two middle fingers and ‘Fuck you’! It’s 2025, don’t even get me started on it.”
