75 million albums sold worldwide, four Grammy Awards and an aura intact over a 40-year career. With her group, Sade Adu has undeniably marked the history of music and if fans are so on the alert regarding her news, it is because the Nigerian and British artist cultivates a precious rarity. Since the superb “Soldier of Love” in 2010, the singer with the velvet voice has disappeared from the shelves. His last songs date back six years: the icon had agreed to sing on the soundtrack of the films “A Wrinkle in Time” by Ava DuVernay and “Widows” by Steve McQueen. From ? A celebration of queer identities
On November 22, the non-profit organization Red Hot will release a collaborative project called “Transa”, with the aim of celebrating transgender people and their contribution to artistic culture, at a time when their very existence is threatened. “ We hope to create a narrative that positions trans and non-binary people as leaders in our society, commensurate with the deep inner work they do to assert who they are in our current climate. Whether you identify as trans, non-binary or otherwise, if you take the time to explore your gender, to get in touch with your emotional side, perhaps we will have a future centered on the values of community, of collaboration and healing » explains Dust Reid, at the origin of this initiative with the artist Massima Bell.
“Forgive me, son”
The 46 songs on this disc will include covers and unreleased songs from more than 100 artists including Sam Smith, André 3000, Clairo and Sade. These issues of identity and gender echo the singer's personal story since her son Izaak Theo, aged 28, is a trans man. And it is to him that she dedicates the unpublished song “Young Lion”, a poignant piano ballad where the artist sings of his regrets for not having understood that he would be happier by beginning a transition. “ Young man / It’s been so heavy for you / You must have felt so alone » she begins in a deep voice, asking his forgiveness for not having stood by her side during her phases of doubt and questioning: “ Forgive me, son / I should have known “. And to add with tenderness: “ You shine like a sun / Shine like a sun / Young gun / See how far you’ve come ».
If the road to appeasement has been long between Sade Adu and his son, the two artists now share a wonderful bond. “ Mom, words cannot describe how much I love you, how grateful I am for everything you do for me and for those around you. You are a gift to the world »wrote Izaak Theo in January to celebrate the 65th birthday of his illustrious mother, who therefore continues to put her notoriety at the service of others with the “Transa” project. When will there be a new album?
