If nothing has yet been made official, Aya Nakamura should indeed be one of the big stars of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games which will be held in a month and a half. His presence has caused controversy in recent months, and many personalities have given their opinion on the issue. The latest is none other than Gims, who was very clear on this subject.
At the end of February, L’Express made public a rumor pushed by Emmanuel Macron: the participation of Aya Nakamura in the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics. Quickly, the political and media class became inflamed, notably with fierce resistance coming from right-wing political figures. However, nothing seems to have changed, and the native of Bamako should indeed sing when the day comes.
In recent weeks, as the subject has gained momentum, many personalities have been questioned about the controversy. And with a few exceptions, it is clear that showbiz has united around Aya Nakamura, supporting her the vast majority of the time. It is therefore no surprise that Gims has followed the same trajectory recently.
Gims sends strength to Aya Nakamura
In an interview with “Ciné Télé Revue”, the former member of Sexion d’Assaut did not hide his support for Aya Nakamura, who is the ideal person to take on the costume in his eyes:
I put myself in his shoes, because I also had to face controversies during my career. She shouldn’t pay attention to it. She clearly has her place. In fact, I don’t see who else could do it. It’s the strongest.

If he therefore gives his full support to the interpreter of “Djadja”, Gims will not be there. And he has a clear reason to explain it:
It was offered to me. I could have done it, but it was not my will. I have already had the chance to perform one of the anthems of the 2022 Football World Cup, during the closing ceremony. I don’t think we can get any bigger. I don’t want to be everywhere.
If Dadju’s brother refused the offer that reached him, other artists, on the other hand, would have dreamed of being entitled to it. This is particularly the case of Matt Pokora, who secretly hoped to be asked to perform part of the show. In the end nothing happened, and the Strasbourg resident did not hide his disappointment at the microphone of BFM TV:
I would have liked to do it, it was not offered to me… I am renowned for being, perhaps, the singer closest to sport and certainly the one who has given the biggest stage performances for fifteen to twenty years. I thought I was legitimate for this kind of big event. That’s life.
Gims’ name is therefore added to the long list of actors and singers who have publicly supported Aya Nakamura in the face of the controversy. Words which will obviously please the main person concerned, she who has remained silent for several weeks, and who, one imagines, continues to prepare herself.
