Real Madrid will say goodbye to two more players this week and the number of Spanish players is falling.

Toni Kroos announced his retirement earlier this month, and in recent days it was revealed that Nacho Fernandez and Joselu Mato will join him at the exit door, as they will leave for Saudi Arabia and Qatar respectively.

With the departures of Nacho and Joselu, the Spanish representation in Carlo Ancelotti’s team will decrease by 25%. With the return of Kepa Arrizabalaga to Chelsea following his loan, Real Madrid would only have five Spanish players in the first team, although this figure will increase to six with the return of Jesus Vallejo from Granada.

A record for Real

According to Relevo, this means that Real Madrid are on course to set a record for the number of Spanish players in their first team. The previous record is eight, which matches the last three seasons. The current number of six could dwindle over the summer as Vallejo is unlikely to stay, while Dani Ceballos and Fran Garcia could also transfer.

Furthermore, none of Real Madrid’s planned summer signings (Alphonso Davies, Leny Yoro and Franco Mastantuono) are Spanish, so the number of players is not expected to increase. However, Kepa is tipped to replace Andriy Lunin, should the latter decide to leave.
