it is already driving and intriguing in Europe

Electric car news

The European automotive scene is in turmoil with the discreet but notable appearance of the Tesla Model Y restyled on our roads. This electric SUV, a true best-seller for the Texan brand, is about to undergo a significant transformation, as its production begins in China in January 2025.

An aerodynamic evolution for greater efficiency

Intensive testing in Europe reveals an innovative approach to aerodynamics. The new design is largely inspired by the advances made on the Model 3, with a optimized drag coefficient (Cx) going from 0.23 to 0.219. This substantial improvement promises increased energy efficiency without modifying the existing battery.

The style evolves subtly with a new front lighting signature, reminiscent of the clean lines of the Polestar 4. The dimensions remain controlled with a length of 4.75 metersguaranteeing sufficient maneuverability in urban environments as well as on the road.

A redesigned interior for greater comfort

The interior benefits from notable improvements:

  • Reinforced sound insulation for a cozy atmosphere like the new Model 3
  • New generation ventilated and heated seats
  • Redesigned and more ergonomic center console
  • Rear multimedia screen for passengers

Performance and autonomy always there

The technical characteristics, although not officially revealed, should improve like the restyling of the Model 3, thus allowing an increase in particular in autonomy, even if this remains “marginal”:

Specification Value
Maximum charging power 170 kW (version standard propulsion) / 250 kW (all other versions)
Autonomy WLTP > 600 km for the most autonomous version
Initial production Shanghai (January 2025)

Phased deployment strategy

Tesla is orchestrating a strategic launch with initial production in Shanghai, followed by a ramp-up of the Berlin factory. This dual industrial location aims to quickly satisfy growing European demand. A version premium is also scheduled for the Chinese market by the end of 2025.

Leadership et concurrence

Faced with the rise of Chinese manufacturers, notably BYD, Tesla is consolidating its position with this major restyling. The Model Y, already the leader in electric sales in in 2024, is strengthening its strengths to maintain its domination of the European market. The first examples produced in Shanghai should quickly hit the road to Europe, marking the start of a new era for this popular electric SUV.
