The transition to the new year is an opportunity for many companies to review their price list. This is particularly the case for this large French bank which is preparing to increase its fees on January 1, 2025. An increase of 166% is notably planned for a particular service while 11 million customers in will be affected by a increase in prices.

Each transition to the new year can result in changes in the services offered by professionals. After having taken stock of the current year and given a course to manage the activity during the following financial year, it is common to update the prices of services or products. A rule from which financial institutions do not escape in order to guarantee quality of service while ensuring the profitability of their economic models.

Between 2023 and 2024, banks and financial institutions carried out a “controlled increase in bank rates”as reported by the 2024 Banking Tariff Observatory. This did not prevent seven of the 14 main services offered by these players from seeing their prices increase significantly. As of January 1, 2025, a large bank with 11 million customers in France also plans to increase its banking fees. Some will even reach an increase of 166%. Explanations.

This French bank is revising all its prices upwards

While most financial institutions have made controlled increases in their prices, of 2 to 3% on average, this player stood out in 2024 with a significant increase in its prices : certain services experienced increases of 14%, sometimes even going up to 21.4%, as reported by our colleagues at JDN.

In 2025, this popular bank in France plans to completely overhaul its price list. A transition which is accompanied by numerous increases, starting with an 11.76% increase in bank account maintenance fees, going from 20.40 euros to 22.80 euros per year. Day-to-day management services are also affected by price increases: you will have to pay €5.50 on average to make an occasional bank transfer, an increase of 10%.

A service three times more expensive

Overdraft fees, intervention commissions and the cost of bank cards are also affected by price increases from January 1, 2025. A decision justified by La Banque Postale by “an alignment with market prices”. On the other hand, the largest increase does not concern a banking service but the costs associated with the postal service.

From January 2025, the cost of returning mail to a wrong address must triple: NPAI return costs (no longer live at the address indicated, editor's note) will increase from 7.50 to 20 euros, an increase of 166.67%. An increase which “concerns very few customers in volume”assures La Banque Postale to our colleagues at BFMTV.
