After a drop of 1,000 euros on January 1, 2024, the amount of the ecological bonus is about to experience a further reduction in 2025. To reduce expenses, the government has, in fact, decided to tackle this system aimed at the purchase of electric vehicles.
« The ecological bonus is purchasing assistance, which favors new vehicles with a low carbon footprint. This aid is conditional on numerous criteria, including the ecological score of the vehicle and the tax income of the applicants. », Explains Bercy on its website. As of January 1, 2024, the amount of this ecological bonus had been reduced by 1,000 euros.
To achieve its objectives, which amount to 60 billion savings in 2025, the government must reduce its spending. For this, he decided to cut the ecological bonus even further. Information confirmed, Tuesday, November 26, by the office of the Minister responsible for the Budget and Public Accounts to TF1 Info. From January, the ecological bonus will therefore decrease. A planing which should reach up to 3,000 euros for certain households.
Drastic drop in the ecological bonus for the most modest households
In detail, households whose reference tax income is less than or equal to 15,400 euros per share, the ecological bonus will drop from 7,000 to 4,000 euros. For households located in the sixth to eighth income decile, the maximum amount of the bonus will increase from 4,000 to 3,000 euros. Finally, for households with the highest tax income, the maximum amount of this aid will increase from 4,000 to 2,000 euros.
It is useful to remember that this reduction was already planned by the former Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, as part of the 2025 finance bill. The ecological bonus was part of the budget cuts planned to achieve the objective of an economy of 10 billion euros. For his part, Michel Barnier reported a saving of 60 billion euros, namely 40 billion in budgetary restrictions and 20 billion in tax revenue.
For households wishing to purchase a new electric vehicle, there is always time to take advantage of the ecological bonus as it currently stands. To do this, you must place an order before December 31, 2024. Once this date has passed, all new orders for electric cars will be subject to the reduced bonus formula. Moreover, the decree implementing this change should be published in the coming days.
