They name Gwendhal Beirnaert and Yuna Bettremieux. They are 17 years old and are now united by the bonds of marriage. Well, not quite. The two spouses went to the town hall of Pontivy (Morbihan), Wednesday November 27, 2024. Their marriage was made official by a deputy. The couple even signed the act making their union official! But all this is just window dressing!
Every year, the Jeanne-d'Arc high school invites final year students who wish to participate in a fake wedding on the occasion of Sainte-Catherine's Day. A tradition that once required young women to find a husband. Last year, the establishment celebrated the 60th anniversary of this event which is above all intended to be good-natured. “The idea is not to take yourself seriously. We want this offbeat side,” confirms Fabrice Fonte, principal education advisor and responsible for organizing this very special day.
See you in ten years?
Two couples showed up this year. After a series of interviews, the choice fell on Gwendhal Beirnaert and Yuna Bettremieux. “We work a lot on image: can we accept being put forward like this, in ten years? “, asks Fabrice Fonte. Because, it must be said, many couples subsequently separated. Even if some high school students are still together today.

The couple does not regret their choice. “We’ve been together for a year and a half, specifies the young bride. We've been talking about this tradition for a while. We are happy to perpetuate it. » “Every time, we laugh a lot. It’s a good time for the whole school to have,” adds her partner. A day which also symbolizes the students' last year at Jeanne-d'Arc, before their higher education.
