A year ago, the pension reform was at the heart of all conversations. It represented a hot topic that divided the country into two camps. Those who considered it an unavoidable necessity and those who saw it as a threat to acquired rights.

But soon, a senior category will see one of the reform measures come to fruition. This is an exceptional increase.

Very good news for some seniors

The law of April 14, 2023 was the starting point of this pension reform controversy. It had shifted the age of eligibility for a pension from 62 to 64 years, causing a wave of discontent among workers and retirees. Some saw it as a necessary measure to ensure the sustainability of the pension system, while others considered it unfair and discriminatory.

A year later, as the legislative elections approached, the New Popular Front took a position. In its program unveiled on Friday June 14, the party confirmed its desire to“repeal immediately” this controversial measure. For them, it was time to restore fairness and protect the rights acquired by workers throughout their careers.

Pension reform is a hot topic that sparks passionate debate. While some see it as an unavoidable necessity, others see it as a threat to acquired rights. But in the middle of all this, a very silent piece of good news comes to bring joy to some retirees.

A late revaluation for certain retirees

Concretely, workers with a full career, but having contributed all their life on salaries close to the minimum wage, can now benefit from an increase in their retirement pension. This improvement involves a revaluation of the minimum contribution (MiCo) and its increased amount. Welcome news for its 1.7 million beneficiaries.

However, only 600,000 retirees of those concerned saw their pension increase, with an average of 50 euros gross per month since last September.

For retirees who have not yet seen an increase in their pension, a glimmer of hope is on the horizon. The long-awaited revaluation, nicknamed “Majex”, should finally come to fruition by September 2024. Last March, the director of the Cnav, Renaud Villard, made the statement. And this time, the difference could reach 100 euros.

Retirees concerned

To access this revaluation, the pensioner must have benefited from a pension of one rate of 50% minimumIn addition to having validated 120 quarters. In other words, you must have contributed for a significant period to claim this improvement.

However, the schedule of payment of the “Majex” for all eligible retirees has not yet been communicated. The Cnav remains discreet on this point, stating that no alert is given concerning the payment schedule.

Over the next two summer months, retirees eligible for the exceptional increase should receive a email specifying the amount to which they are entitled. This message from Cnav will also provide information on making up for the missing twelve months.

Conditions for the 100 euro increase

As for the promise of a increase of 100 euros per month, it will not benefit everyone. Only those who have worked all their lives in the private sector, and whose remuneration was the minimum wage, can claim this additional 100 euros.

THE self-employed workers or those in the agricultural sector fulfilling the conditions can also benefit from this full revaluation. Former employees of the private and public sectors are therefore not concerned.
