Participants in the 11th edition of the International Plastics Forum-Exhibition underlined, Wednesday in Casablanca, the imperative to reinvent the approach to the production and consumption of plastic to face environmental challenges.

“The metropolis is proud to host this event that brings together the various players in the plastics sector, the driving force of the Moroccan economy. Faced with environmental challenges, it is imperative to reinvent our approach to the production and consumption of plastic,” said Malika Mezzour, Vice President of the City of Casablanca, who spoke at the opening of the forum.

Ms. Mezzour noted that the adoption of sustainable practices not only contributes to reducing the ecological footprint but also to stimulating innovation, creating new jobs and strengthening national economic competitiveness on international markets, reported a press release from the Moroccan Plastics Federation (FMP), organizer of the event.

In this sense, she clarified that the transition to green plastics is not only an environmental necessity, but an economic opportunity, noting that the city of Casablanca is part of this dynamic through concrete initiatives.

For his part, Chakib Alj, president of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), stressed that the plastics industry is showing significant growth rates and is making a strong contribution to the creation of added value and jobs.

“In a favorable business climate, the double-digit growth posted by the sector combined with its largely untapped potential makes it one of the most promising industries in our economy,” he said. For him, the next step is to secure the supply of recyclable materials, “a subject that we must all address in the near future and in a logic that is both societal and circular economy.

“This will help maintain the sector’s momentum and will mechanically benefit all our industries,” he concluded.

In turn, Hicham Elhaid, president of the Moroccan Federation of Plastics, explained that “the plastics sector is transversal”. Mr. Elhaid has always supported other industrial sectors such as the automobile, agri-food and others, by offering them solutions that allow them to significantly reduce their dependence on imports.

According to him, professionals in the sector are obliged to face the various challenges by placing sustainable development among their priorities.

It should be noted that on the sidelines of these events, Dr Nabil Saouf, Deputy Managing Director of the FMP, was appointed Africa Ambassador of the Plastic Summit, a key event for the green plastics industry, which will take place in October 2025 in Europe.

This new edition of the FMP International Forum-Exhibition is this year highlighting two client sectors of the plastics industry: the Industries for the Transformation and Valorization of Fishery Products (FENIP) and the Chemical sector, represented by their Federations, FENIP and FCP.

During the three days of the forum, visitors will have the opportunity to discover the potential of national production “Made in Morocco” of investments and industrial subcontracting available in Morocco, in order to promote the emergence of new green industrial synergies and make it a powerful lever for sustainable industrial growth.

The International Plastics Forum-Exhibition opened its doors on Wednesday under the banner of innovation, building on the success of its previous editions. Organized by the FMP, at the Exhibition Center of the Casablanca Fairs and Exhibitions Office “OFEC” – AMDIE, in conjunction with the 1st edition of the Global Green Plast “GGP”, it is placed under the aegis of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
