Gone are the days when you had to insert your bank card into the terminal to pay an amount greater than 50 euros. As reported by BFM Business, a new and very practical feature is being rolled out in France. Called “Contactless Plus”, it allows you to pay for your purchases without inserting your card, regardless of the amount.

The PIN code still obligatory above 50 euros

“Payment is therefore faster, with an accelerated checkout and still just as secure,” welcomes the bank card group. But be careful, it is important to note that for amounts greater than 50 euros, entering the secret code remains mandatory. For security reasons, buyers will not have to insert their card but will still have to enter their code.

An update of terminals

What should customers do to take advantage of this new feature? Absolutely nothing. Switching to “Contactless Plus” only requires updating payment terminals. But this is not automatic so you will probably have to wait a little before all merchants are able to offer this new feature.

Launched in 2012 for amounts less than 20 euros, contactless payment became widespread in France during the health crisis. According to a study relayed by our colleagues, 86% of French people used this means of payment in 2022. Its ceiling was raised for the first time in 2017 to 30 euros, before increasing to 50 euros in May 2020.
