Liquidation of Celeste: the vice-president of the Region invites Stéphane Roudaut to “a little more height”

“A useless and sterile controversy”. Vice-president of the Brittany region in charge of transport, Mickaël Quernez was quick, this Wednesday, June 26, 2024, to react to the comments of Finistère Stéphane Roudaut.

A little earlier in the day, the latter, an opposition regional councilor, deplored the judicial liquidation of the Morlaisian airline Celeste and had a word for the Regional Council. In the eyes of the various right-wing elected officials, the community would not have been diligent enough when it came to supporting Celeste. An alleged delay which would not have facilitated the aborted takeoff of the company

.

“I do not understand very well… “

“I don’t really understand Stéphane Roudaut’s perseverance in questioning the attitude of the Regional Council. We have already explained everything to him in the plenary session of the council,” says Mickaël Quernez.

For the PS vice-president of the Region, his majority observed “the same approach as Brest Métropole on the issue. A metropolis of which Stéphane Roudaut is also vice-president. The two communities are talking to each other and we were in agreement on the conditions for granting repayable advances.” Namely, that the company is made up of “at least 50% private capital” and that it obtains “its operating license”.

“How can a liberal like Stéphane Roudaut imagine that public money could have a majority stake in the capital of a private company? », quips Mickaël Quernez, blaming the delays pointed to the impossibility of the project leaders to raise the funds necessary to launch the company.

“These are not manners”

“It’s not manners. The debate deserves a little more height”, summarizes the annoyed socialist, who also twists his neck at the idea of a lack of support from the Region for Brest airport (for the benefit of that of Rennes). “Brest airport receives the same strong support as Rennes. We notably supported its operating deficit last year”, punctuates Mickaël Quernez who does not deny the Breton difficulties: “It is a fact that in the post-covid period, our airports are taking off less quickly than national airports” .

* Initially positioned on the resumption of the Brest-Orly line, abandoned by Chalair.
