Some will not be able to avoid a grimace or an ironic wink: the federal fund’s revenue forecasts look better than expected at the start of the year. Enough to give grist to the mill of those who criticize the Federal Council and the administration for being pessimistic in order to better maintain the pressure. The 2025 budget, presented this Wednesday by the Minister of Finance, Karin Keller-Sutter (PLR), is close to balance. It has a financing deficit of 700 million francs, for revenues of 85.7 billion and expenses of 86.4 billion.

The Federal Finance Administration refuses to make deliberately cautious forecasts. “Our estimates are based on recognized methods,” emphasizes Sabine D’Amelio-Favez, director. “And it is not possible to estimate the evolution of the economy to the nearest decimal point.”
