BROSSARD – Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced Monday that the team has agreed to terms on an eight-year contract extension (2025-26 to 2032-33) worth $60.8 million with forward Juraj Slafkovský.
The deal will pay him an average annual salary of $7.6 million.
Slafkovský, 20, has 50 points (20-30) in 82 games with the Canadiens in 2023-24.
Playing in his second NHL season, he ranked third on the team in goals and body checks (152) and fourth in points and assists, in addition to leading the Club’s forwards with 71 blocked shots.
By collecting an assist on March 26 in Colorado, Slafkovský became the first player in team history to collect 40 points in a season before the age of 20.
The forward reached the 100-game NHL career mark on March 2 in Tampa. Slafkovský also scored his first NHL hat trick on March 28 against the Flyers.
The Košice, Slovakia native set a career-high with a nine-game point streak (March 9-28), during which he had two goals and eight assists.
After the 2023–24 season ended, Slafkovský represented his country at the 2024 IIHF World Championship, recording eight assists in eight games.
The first overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, the 6’3″, 230 lb. winger leads his class in games played (121), goals (24), assists (36) and points (60), two seasons after being selected by Montreal.
