“Mike died of police violence,” says M.e Simon Ntah in the first minutes of the appeal trial of the six police officers acquitted of negligent homicide by the Lausanne Criminal Court a year ago. The lawyer for the relatives of the Nigerian father sets the scene, as one would plant banderillas. His words echo the slogans that have been ringing out for several minutes in front of the Longemalle building, where a swarm of anti-racist activists unfurl the now familiar banners: “Justice for Mike”; “No justice, no peace”.
