Renault has just started marketing its new electric R5 equipped with the “small” 40 kWh battery. This allows prices to be reduced.
For several weeks, it has been possible to order the new Renault 5 E-Tech. But there wasn't much choice, since only the large 52 kWh battery was available. With a starting price set at 33,490 euros, excluding ecological bonus.
Renault has just announced, via a press release, the marketing of a new version, equipped with a smaller battery with a capacity of 40 kWh. The range then increases from 410 to 312 km on the WLTP mixed cycle. And above all, the price drops, with a starting price set at 27,990 euros in Evolution finish excluding ecological bonus.
There is also another major difference: the engine is deflated, since its maximum power goes from 150 (110 kW) to 120 hp (90 kW). 0 to 100 km/h is then achieved in 12.9 seconds compared to 8 seconds for the most powerful version.
The new Evolution finish
Also note: for the moment, the Evolution finish is not available on the 52 kWh version, but only on the 40 kWh version. This is the entry-level finish, which draws the line on many pieces of equipment.
To go further
Renault unveils the new, more affordable prices for the electric R5: €25,000 approaching
For example, it abandons the alloy rims, Google services (Android Automotive) as well as the illuminated charge indicator on the hood. It still retains the automatic air conditioning, the heat pump or the central screen compatible with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay as well as the LED headlights.
Of course, this electric R5 is eligible for the ecological bonus of 4,000 euros. The French manufacturer announces a rental price which starts at 150 euros per month. But be careful to read the fine print, since it is with a contribution of 9,500 euros including 4,000 euros of ecological bonus and 1,500 euros of conversion bonus which requires scrapping an old vehicle.
In a few weeks, Renault will launch the marketing of an even cheaper electric R5: the one equipped with the small 40 kWh battery and the 95 hp (70 kW) motor. It will be offered for less than 25,000 euros (or around 21,000 euros with the bonus) but will not have fast charging. Too bad, because we know that the Renault 5 E-Tech recharges rather quickly: 30 minutes as proven by a recent test by our colleagues.
