Since the start of 2023, the Livret A rate has been set at 3%. In February 2025, its rate is expected to decrease to 2.5%. How much do you need to save each year to earn €500?

2.3 billion euros were placed on Livret A this year, according to RTL. The Livret A rate, although determined by the French government, is in fact based on a more complex mechanism which considers the evolution of interest rates in the economy. This rate is adjusted twice a year, in January and July, based on two main factors: inflation and interbank market rates.

Today, its rate is 3%. In February 2025, during the next rate review, it could drop to 2.5%, according to the general director of the Caisse des Dépôts (CDC), Eric Lombard. Faced with this decline, here is how much you need to save every year to earn 500 euros.

Livret A at 2.5%: here is the amount you need to save to earn 500 euros per year

According to the Planet website, to earn 500 euros with a Livret A at 2.5%, you must save at least 20 000 euros.

How is this amount calculated?

Initial capital invested x Interest rate expressed as a percentage x Period of placement

Here are other examples with a 2.5% savings account:

Gain of 400 euros > 16,000 euros in savings

Gain of 200 euros > 8,000 euros in savings

Gain of 100 euros > 4,000 euros in savings

Gain of 50 euros > 2,000 savings
