here is when and what models

Rumors have been buzzing for several months, it is now official: Polestar, Volvo’s cousin brand, will finally arrive in France in 2025. The opportunity to take advantage of their electric cars, after several years of absence. Here’s what to expect.

Initially an independent trainer then Volvo’s sports brand, Polestar emancipated itself following the takeover of Volvo by the Chinese group Geely to offer its own range of electric cars. Almost all of Europe benefited from it… except France, because of a (stupid) lawsuit with Citroën.

A trial which concluded in 2022, theoretically opening the way to the French market, but no news from Polestar. Until today: after several months of rumors, a press release from the brand announces its arrival in France for 2025 with its current range.

Seven new markets in Europe

France is not the only country that will welcome Polestar in 2025: the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Thailand and Brazil will also benefit from these Sino-Swedish electric cars.

France still remains an important market for Polestar, since it is the “largest market by volume for electric cars in the EU after Germany and represents a significant opportunity for the company”, recalls the brand. Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, adds: “Through these partnerships and expansion, we will leverage the strength of our brand and our expanding model range”. The opportunity to take a look at this famous range.

Three electric cars at launch

Today, Polestar markets only one electric car in Europe: the Polestar 2, a sedan competing with the Tesla Model 3. It is capable of traveling up to 655 km on one charge according to the WLTP standard thanks to its 82 kWh battery. (another, 69 kWh, is also available, allowing up to 546 km of WLTP autonomy). Starting price: 44,990 euros in Belgium – French prices have not yet been revealed.

Two other models are imminent and will be available as soon as the brand arrives in France: the Polestar 3, a large SUV cousin of the Volvo EX90, available from 86,800 euros in Belgium and equipped with a 111 kWh battery, enough to travel 631 km in one charge.

The last is the Polestar 4, a sort of hybrid between an SUV and a sedan, which is surprising by its absence of rear window – replaced by an HD camera, the image of which is transmitted in the interior rear-view mirror. Count on 64,800 euros minimum in Belgium with a 100 kWh battery, or 620 km of WLTP autonomy.

The range will be expanded later with the Polestar 5, a large sedan whose extremely innovative batteries seem to be able to recharge in a flash, then with the Polestar 6, a high-performance convertible.

Before its arrival on the French market, Polestar must therefore formalize French prices, but also create a distribution network. Polestar evokes an agency strategy managed directly by the brand, aided by 100% online orders. Exactly like… Tesla, then.
