The deputies expressed, Wednesday in committee, their opposition to the unemployment insurance reform desired by the French government, by supporting a symbolic text proposed by the Liot group (Libertés, independents, overseas and territories group).

The centrist group indicated that its proposal aims to include in law the 18 months of compensation for the unemployed, against the 15 months desired by the Executive.

The proposal garnered the votes of the left and the National Rally (RN), illustrating clear opposition to the new reform.

Currently, the government wants to reduce the duration of compensation from December 1 and tighten the eligibility conditions, despite opposition from the main unions.

In reaction, Liot launched this initiative to show that Prime Minister Gabriel Attal does not have a majority in the National Assembly for his reform.

MP Martine Froger stressed that this bill represents a “strong signal” against the reform.

On the left, criticism was strong, with accusations of “precariousness” of the unemployed. On the far right, Emmanuel Taché de la Pagerie denounced a “social breakdown”.

“Victory in committee! Adoption of the text aimed at protecting unemployment insurance! Macronie will not be able to impose its reform which still attacks workers nor use their contributions to finance France Travail. Thursday June 13, we adopt it definitively “, we could read in a publication of the parliamentary group La France Insoumise (LFI) on X.

The fate of this proposal will be decided on June 13 in plenary session, with continued uncertainty over its legislative future in the Senate. This rejection in committee marks a new stage in tensions between the government and the oppositions.
