Moroccan pepper exports to European Union (EU) markets increased by 48.47% in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period of 2019, with a volume of nearly 64,000 tonnes. This is what the specialized site reports Hortoinfowhich was based on data from the Euroestacom statistical service (ICEX-Eurostat).

These shipments brought in to Moroccan exporters an amount of 84.88 million euros (the average price being 1.33 euros per kilogram). This allowed Morocco to rank as the EU’s second supplier of this product, with a share of 19.23% of the total peppers sold on community markets during the first three months of 2024.

First place was occupied by Spain which monopolized almost half of the peppers sold on these markets during the period considered, down sharply (-46.33%), however, compared to the end of March 2019. Knowing that, according to the same Source, EU imports of peppers fell by more than 28% over the period.

Third place goes to Turkey, with a volume sold between January and March 2024 on community markets of more than 38,000 tonnes of pepper, with a share of 11.43%. Next come Germany (with 19,000 tonnes) and the Netherlands (15,000 tonnes).
