From Fos-sur-mer to Bourges, the list of ten new factories announced by Macron

Je announces to you that ten new factories will be built in the coming months, everywhere, from Fos to Bourges », said Emmanuel Macron, in a long interview given to the weekly The Express Wednesday 22 May. Making the reindustrialization of the country one of his priorities, as illustrated by the Choose France summit, the President of the Republic left it to his Minister of Industry and Energy, Roland Lescure, to announce these famous new factories during a speech at the Vivattech show this Thursday evening.

Choose France: despite “record” investments, fragile reindustrialization

In fact, these are mainly the new winners of the “First Factory” call for projects, which consists of supporting industrial startups in the financial arrangement of their first production tool. “ The objective is clear: provide subsidies to provide these startups with their production site », Comments Bercy. Through this initiative, the government has just released 42 million in aid to support the 121 million in productive investment planned by these ten factory projects, via the France 2030 plan and the support of Bpifrance. “ This ranges from robotics to hydrogen energy, including agri-food and carbon-free aviation. “, explains the cabinet of “Mr. Factories” of the government.

Aerospace sector and decarbonization of industry

Among the winners is the project of the company Expliseat, in Avrillé (Pays de la Loire), which designed and certified the first composite transport seat. A material increasingly popular in the aeronautical industry for its robustness and above all its lightness. This new factory should allow the company to increase its production to address new markets. In the aerospace sector, the government has selected the future Ion-X factory in Palaiseau. The Parisian gem will then be able to target a monthly rate of ten engines for small satellites and an annual turnover of ten million euros. Further north, in Ponts-Sainte-Maxence (Hauts-de-France), the company Pyromeral Systems will deploy its Janus project, which is based on the establishment of a first production plant “ of composite parts with ceramic matrices for the defense and civil and military aeronautics sector », According to Bercy.

Medicines: the puzzle of relocation to France

Among these lucky people, the decarbonization of industry is also very present, like the project carried out by the company My Vosges in the territory of Chavelot (Grand Est). This uses wood pyrolysis technology to produce biocarbon and thus replace fossil coal with the aim of decarbonizing metallurgical industries. With this same logic, the France 2030 plan will support GravitHy for its future factory in Fos-sur-Mer (Paca). This startup has positioned itself on the decarbonization of the steel value chain, with the production of two megatons of reduced iron from green hydrogen. Another factory announced by Emmanuel Macron, that of Energy Observer Developments, which intends to produce electric generators operating with a hydrogen fuel cell, rather than a fossil fuel, for fixed or mobile use.

In a completely different area, the State will co-finance the Girondin Toopi Organics industrial project, which is based on the production of biostimulants. A pioneer in the recycling of human urine into agricultural fertilizer, currently partially replacing mineral fertilizers, Toopi Organics recently raised 16 million euros to move to an industrial scale.

Also, this “First Factory” call for projects selected the Cybertron project from the company Vistory, which is based on the manufacturing of mini additive manufacturing factories, or the Huddle Corp project for the production of augmented feed for farm animals. and Deltalys based on biogas filtration.

More than 6,000 industrial jobs in two years

With these ten first factory projects, France could count on more than 1,000 additional industrial jobs, according to data provided by the winners, including 500 for the GravitHy project alone. But Bercy, which emphasizes having already supported 66 industrial startups with this system, since the end of 2022, estimates the promise of industrial jobs created at more than 6,100. Accounting level, 293 million euros in subsidies have been released since the creation of this system, for a total of productive investments of around 885 million euros.

“According to a recent report from the General Inspectorate of Finance, we have a growing number of startups heading into industry. Market opportunities are increasingly reduced in Tech, unlike in industry despite a certain number of difficulties that must be faced such as finding land and financing these factories,” underlines Roland Lescure’s office, Minister of Industry.

Furthermore, according to the State industrial barometer, a new public measurement tool for reindustrialization in France, 377 net openings (including factory extensions) have been recorded in 2022 and 2023 in France.
