At the microphone of Inter, the first secretary of the Socialist Party asked the Head of State to be concerned about the fate of the Sanofi subsidiary which could be sold across the Atlantic.

It’s the punchline of the weekend. Invited this Sunday to the microphone of France Inter, the first secretary of the Socialist Party Olivier Faure criticized Emmanuel Macron: “The president (of the Republic) takes care today of ensuring that Emily in remains in France, I would prefer that he takes care of ensuring that Doliprane remains in France”, he said on air.

The member for Seine-et- made reference to the interview given by the Head of State to the American cultural magazine Variety and in which he assures that he will fight “ardently” so that the Netflix series – in which his wife Brigitte recently appeared – remains in the capital. “NWe will ask them to stay in Paris! Emily in Paris in Rome makes no sense”, then defended Emmanuel Macron, faced with the rumor of relocation of the series to Italy.

“Why choose the American fund?”

However, a few days later, we also learned that the French giant Sanofi is in negotiations with an investment fund across the Atlantic to sell it one of its subsidiaries, the one which produces Doliprane in particular. “Our health sovereignty is at stake,” Olivier Faure gets carried away, before going into detail. “There were two funds ready to invest in Doliprane : an American fund and a French fund. This French fund, which is called PAI (Partners), presented all the guarantees, and produced an offer completely equivalent to that of the American fund. Why on earth choose the American fund rather than the French fund, when tomorrow if there is a problem of drug shortage, you know very well that the American government could ask that there be a priority given to the Americans rather than to the French?” he argued.

Furthermore, according to Mr. Faure, referring to the Monetary and Financial Code, “there is a law which allows, on health issues, to block a sale and ensure that Sanofi reverses its decision.”

Government confidence

The government, through the Minister of Industry Marc Ferracci, says it is following the file. “I very sincerely believe that commitments will be made, which will be very solid, both to maintain jobs and to maintain security of supply for the French.” he declared. However, no member of the executive, not even the Minister of Culture Rachida Dati, has commented on the exodus of Emily in Paris.
