Two years after the enormous success of the first film, which grossed $524 million worldwide and modernized the image of the famous detective created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law reprise their roles as Sherlock Holmes and John Watson in Shadow Game. Still under the direction of Guy Ritchie, this new adventure also welcomes new faces to the cast, such as Noomi Rapace and Jared Harris. This time, Sherlock Holmes and his faithful sidekick Watson face their sworn enemy, the formidable Doctor Moriarty.

To carry out their mission, they are helped by a mysterious gypsy, played by Noomi Rapace, and a French anarchist played by Thierry Neuvic. However, if Thierry Neuvic is indeed in the credits, another French actor could have appeared in the film. Lellouche continues “It speaks at 400 miles an hour, I don’t understand anything”explaining that he realized at the time that the scene was being rewritten. “I start to play, I feel it take hold, end of the scene, everyone applauds. Robert Downey Jr. says to me ‘What you just played, Gilles, it’s extraordinary'”he says, with a smile on his face. However, despite this apparent success, Gilles Lellouche was ultimately cut during editing and replaced. “Six months go by, and my agent says to me, ‘There’s a problem with Sherlock Holmes, they’re going to have to reshoot your scene because they don’t like it.’ I ask, ‘When?’, and he says, ‘ No, they’re going to reshoot it without you… They took another actor in the end'”he confides. Although he did not specify exactly the role he was to play, it is very likely that it was the one played by Thierry Neuvic, which suggests that the French actor was chosen to replace Lellouche.
