[DIGITAL Business Africa] – In Egypt, the operators of electronic communication services, Vodafone, and E&B, are moving to power 5. The operators obtained 5G licenses on Monday October 7, 2024. Fruit of the agreement signed between these three operators and the Egyptian government. According to Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, these agreements aim to improve 5G services, significantly improve the quality of communications and expand network capacity for optimal performance.

Minister Amr Talaat confirmed that Egypt has the capacity to provide the latest 5G technologies, contributing to improving services and strengthening mobile network capabilities. For the Egyptian digital boss, this approach is vital for the country to be able to provide advanced technological services to its citizens.

The government reportedly earned around $675 million from selling 5G service licenses to the country’s four telecommunications operators, including Vodafone Egypt, Orange Egypt, E&B Egypt and state-owned Telecom Egypt. Which is the first operator to have obtained its 15-year 5G license, in January 2024, from the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA). Its value was 150 million dollars. However, the license will not be automatically renewed upon expiration and does not include any additional benefits.

The country has a mobile phone penetration rate of around 95%, representing more than 100 million subscriptions, and an Internet penetration rate of 49%. As part of its “2030” vision, the government introduced a new component entitled “Digital Egypt”.

Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, met with the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy for Technology, Amandeep Gill, on the sidelines of the 1st Global Digital Infrastructure Summit, which was held in Egypt , held from October 1 to 3, 2024.

Amr Talaat told his guest that Egypt is keen to promote the use of artificial intelligence to find innovative solutions to societal challenges, adding that the second phase of the national strategy for artificial intelligence is currently being developed. preparation, in line with global technological developments, especially with the wide diffusion of generative artificial intelligence technologies.
